Travelling to Gangtok
Gangtok is located in the eastern Himalayas. It is 97 km north-east of Darjeeling, 114 km north-east of Siliguri and 720 km north of Kolkata. It is a three hour drive from Kalimpong and four hours from Darjeeling and Siliguri. Within Sikkim all the travel has to be by road.
WHEN TO GO:Â In May / June the flowers are in bloom and the Orchid Festivals is on. For the best view of the Kanchenjunga mountain ranges go after the monsoons in October when the skies are clear.
AIR:Â The nearest airport is Bagdogra, 124 km and four and a half hour drive away. It is connected to most of the metropolitan cities.
RAIL:Â Nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri, 121 km, four and half hours drive away. There is a Rajdhani connection to Delhi and many trains from Kolkata.
ROAD:Â The NH31A connects Gangtok to Siliguri. There are deluxe bus connections from Siliguri and Kolkata. Also shared taxis are available from Siliguri.
