Mathakuar Temple & Monasteries
Nearby is a small temple that marks the spot where the Buddha gave his last sermon. Inside there is a sitting image of the Buddha in the bhumisparsha pose. Over the last decades many new monasteries have been built by Buddhists from other countries. The oldest is the Chandaramani Bhikshu Dharamshala built by the Burmese. There are also temples and monasteries built by Sri Lankans, Chinese and Japanese and the chaityas have images of the Buddha, Buddhist deities and his important bhikshus. There is also a meditation centre and a museum that are worth visiting.
